Questions drivers ask
Tap a question to see the answer.
Is it full time or part time?
Full time. You must work a minimum of 5 days a week.
Am I employed or self-employed?
Self-employed. You handle your own tax and National Insurance.
How and when am I paid?
Weekly, every Monday, by bank transfer. It’s not cash in hand.
How many hours a day is it?
6 to 7 hours, depending on your parcel load. The faster you deliver, the sooner you finish.
How do I earn up to £160 a day?
After your first 10 working days, any day you successfully deliver 90% or more of your parcels pays up to £160.
Do I cover my own fuel?
Yes. As a self-employed driver, you cover your own fuel.
Do I cover my own insurance?
Yes. It’s the same as Uber or Amazon Flex: your vehicle, your insurance. You’ll need Hire & Reward (courier) insurance in place before you start, as normal car insurance doesn’t cover deliveries.
Choose cover you can stop anytime. Most monthly policies are really 12-month contracts, so stopping early can mean a cancellation fee.
Our top pick: Zego offers 30-day courier van cover that rolls monthly and can be stopped with no cancellation fee.
Using a car, or want to compare? Try QuoteZone (compares several insurers) or Adrian Flux (good if you have points). Before you buy, ask: “Is this a rolling monthly policy, and can I cancel anytime without a fee?”

Can I use a car, or does it have to be a van?
Either, as long as it’s your own.
Can I apply with more than 6 points?
No, 6 points is the maximum. Points count for 3 years from the offence date, so you can apply once you’re back to 6 or under.
I’ve just passed my test. Can I apply?
Yes. There’s no minimum time you need to have held your licence.
Is the work consistent?
Yes, the work is consistent, and it stays that way as long as you keep turning up and showing you’re ready to work.
When can I start?
Once your documents have been approved, the delivery company contacts you about training and your start date.
